FENDER KATSALIDIS BUILDING
Legendary Melbourne architects, Fender Katsalidis, present a smooth, subtly-coloured and richly textured design treatment. With frontage to Canning St, Palmerston St and the leafy expanses at the heart of the precinct, the building's two main entrances are framed by eye-catching facade elements wrapped with coloured metallic finishes.
A range of apartment styles – from studio to three bedrooms – feature flexible layouts and an abundance of natural light and ventilation. Most street-facing ground floor apartments have courtyard entries directly from the footpath, with landscaped low walls that provide a dynamic re-imagining of the classic Carlton streetscape.
ARM ARCHITECTURE BUILDING
An exciting jewel-like facade of mosaic patterns presents a bold geometrical form as part of the characteristically innovative design by award-winning ARM Architecture. Thirty-five apartments of one, two and three bedroom designs offer inspired modern living on four levels, with generous balconies overlooking Canning St and the tree-clad contours of the centrally located park.
The building's graphite colour inlaid with patterns of reflective gold and silver squares evokes the vivid coursing of the large basalt blocks and mortar joints that are a feature of Carlton's rich heritage of gold-rush architecture. The entry foyer and balcony recesses are highlighted elegantly by a warm golden colour. Distinctive, pop-out extrusions activate street views and provide sun shading to the internal living areas.
